About our cause
Since 1995 the South Western Ambulance Charity has been 'going the extra mile' for the staff and volunteers of the South Western Ambulance Service, and the South West communities that we serve.
Although our NHS ambulance service is funded by the government, NHS charities raise funds to help the NHS go even further to benefit patients. The South Western Ambulance Charity does this in 3 main ways:
We support our exceptional people
The Staying Well Service provides the staff and volunteers of the South Western Ambulance Service with access to sources of help and support with their physical health and mental wellbeing. The importance of having a confidential lifeline for people who are, by the nature of the work they do, often exposed to traumatic and disturbing events, can’t be underestimated. Charity income is used to extend the welfare support and services available to our exceptional people.
We also enhance the personal development of staff and volunteers through training and development bursaries.
We support communities
The South Western Ambulance Charity supports defibrillator placement, maintenance and training, as well as helping communities to learn about CPR and using defibrillators.
Increased public access to defibrillators results in more people receiving a life-saving shock, giving patients the best possible chance of survival.
We support our volunteer heroes
Community First Responders (CFRs) operate within the communities in which they live or work, providing lifesaving emergency aid early and ahead of ambulance arrival. They help to save lives, reduce pain and provide reassurance to those requiring emergency care.
Donations support volunteer CFRs with enhanced equipment and training, over and above that provided by the NHS.
CFRs can be called on at any time, day or night, and as the most rural Ambulance Service in England, the contribution of the CFRs is invaluable.
How we use Salisbury Community Lottery donations
Donations are ring-fenced for use in this local lottery area to go the extra mile for our Ambulance Service staff and volunteer Community First Responders through the provision of enhanced equipment and improved facilities. Donations can also be used to improve public access to defibrillators in the Salisbury area.
We need your help so we can continue to offer and even expand our services.
Thank you for your support and we wish you good luck!
